This story comes from Chicago, but I think we can all appreciate its universal message. So apparently this officer was particularly fond of targeting people coming in and out of Church on Sunday! He also is reported to have given tickets to parents dropping off kids with their hazard lights on and getting into arguments with them. Then adding insult to injury, he went on social media to brag about his ‘accomplishments’, according to CBS Chicago, saying in one post,”Chicago you’ve been warned. I’m working Sunday. Don’t park illegally when you go to worship your God of choice,” and in another, “I ended this year on the bang,” referring to the large number of tickets he had written throughout the year.
All of this resulted in a large number of complaints and eventually the overzealous parking enforcement agent was moved to harass a different area of Chicago. All of this is to say, if you feel like your local precinct is being unfair in their ticketing practices, talk to them. Start a conversation. Talk to community leaders and organizers. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
