[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]There are a few things in life that we all just know are true. For example, we know that parking ticket quotas in NYC are illegal (we’ve written about them here and here) but we also know that even if quotas are technically illegal, they still exist. Even if we didn’t have explicit proof, we just know it in our bones. But now we also do have that proof, thanks to Jonathan Auerbach and the NY Daily News.
The city has a big database full of information about all sorts of things that they make public . This database includes lots of information about parking tickets, including where they are given, what kind of ticket it is, and, most importantly to today’s topic, when they are given. So Jonathan, a Phd candidate in statistics at Columbia, took that raw data and started crunching the numbers. And what he found, was that you are 25% more likely to receive a ticket at the end of the month! He also found a slight increase in the middle of the month as well. He is also quick to point out that you would have to receive about 250 tickets a month to actually experience what he refers to as “inconsistent policing.” But the point is that quotas are bad for New York, not just because you are more likely to get a ticket at certain times of the month, but because they distract cops from doing their jobs. If a police officer is worried about making sure they are making their quota, they may not be as focused on serving and protecting our communities.
So make sure you are a little extra careful at the end of the month to avoid helping some poor officer make their monthly quota. And if you want to read more about how he came to these conclusions, you can read the full article here.
If you do end up with one of these pesky tickets, that’s where Ticket Wiper comes in to help. Just download the app below and scan for your ticket in the NYC Database. Then we will fight the ticket for you, and if we win, you only pay 50% of the ticket. Otherwise you don’t pay us a dime.
