Today we will be talking about ‘Block The Box’ Tickets. First, what does it mean to block the box? Block the box, or gridlock, occurs when a car in traffic moves into the intersection and cannot move past the intersection due to traffic in front of it. If traffic should be moving in the direction perpendicular to you, but it can’t because you are stuck in the intersection, then you have Blocked the Box.
We’ve all been there. You think the traffic ahead of you will keep moving and you can make it, but instead you end up stuck in the intersection. If a Traffic Enforcement Officer is nearby, you could be looking at a ticket. Now sometimes, the Traffic Enforcement Officer may be in a hurry and just try to scan your windshield for your registration info. But as you know from our previous blog, “Getting a Parking Ticket With the Car Running“, if you are in the driver’s seat when the ticket is issued, they have to put your name on the ticket. If you ignore or drive off before the Traffic Enforement Officer gets your name, your ticket will say “Refused Name’. I’ve also seen some Traffic Enforcement Officers put ‘Refused Name’ on these tickets in order to save time and avoid having to ask the driver for their name.
The best way to avoid these tickets is to just be patient and always wait for the intersection to clear before moving into it. However, if you do get stuck with a ‘Block the Box’ ticket, Ticket Wiper is here to help! Just download the app below and scan for you ticket in the NYC Database.
